With the body in the lotus position, they are worshiping the ever-glowing light of the jewel of the White Lotus Blossom. This White Lotus glows in the glory of every heart. The jewel within this lotus – the glow of the Ruby – is pure and still. As you meditate on this you will learn real wisdom. You will learn to go directly to this jewel hidden deep within you, and here, in a timeless flash, you will comprehend the truth. Not with your mind, but with your heart.

The Sun has entered VIRGO
The earth sign of Virgo, symbolized by the Corn Maiden, accentuates the path of personal service and purity. It represents work and service to mankind of the highest order. Through dedication to physical fitness and holistic healing, your body can become a sacred temple for the spirit within, allowing it to emerge into your everyday life. Don’t expect miracles overnight, and most Virgo’s don’t as they are quite practical. Be gentle with yourself as you eliminate those nasty habits of doubt, criticism and worry. Reawaken the wonder of learning and the satisfaction of simple joys, but turn away from the fanaticism that fosters a workaholic temperment or leads you into a hermit-like existence. Efficiency and industriousness are your twin assets, leading to complete success at this time, the beginning of the harvest cycle of the year. By giving to others, you give to and improve yourself. Then you will always be on the right track.
Virgos usually receive the Zodiac’s backlash. They are detailed, organized, methodical, chaste, and very insecure. Also, they are usually very critical of themselves. They seem to expect the same from others, which can cause resentment and jealousy. However, they do make up for this with their charm, as they are of the most unassuming variety. Virgo’s approach is usually subtle, and surprisingly tender. Their standards are high, but they ultimately can accept differences and flaws once they get to know and trust you. With a Virgo, trust is never given, it has to be earned.

Grouse once flocked in abundance throughout North America. But now, even on the plains where these birds were plentiful, there is an absence of them. Many Plains Indian tribes dance the Grouse Dance to honor these birds. The movement of the dance follows a spiral, which is the ancient symbol of birth and rebirth; the ribbed tunnel of eternal rebirth.
The Sacred Spiral is also one of the oldest known symbols for personal power. When you think of Grouse medicine, visualize a whirlpool or even a tornado, for the sacred spiral will take you to the center. The spiral is a metaphor for personal vision and enlightenment. Many initiates on Vision Quests paint spiral sand believe that the Great Mystery will favor them with visions of power and purpose because of this symbol.
The whirling dervishes of certain Sufi orders are masters of the spiral dance and can transcend to higher states of awareness through the repetition of this sacred movement. It is said that dervishes can travel to the center of the spiral and return with any sort of magical power they choose. In the dervish state, it is said that one enters the Great Silence and has direct communication with the creator. By spinning, clockwise (positive) or counter-clockwise (negative), the dervish draws or repulses specific energies. Sufi dancing is a system which connects one with the Divine Source through ritual treatment of motion.
Grouse medicine has appeared for the time of Virgo energies, 2023. Undertake a meditation on the various qualities of movement within your world. Begin by visualizing the Sun as one part of a huge group of stars swirling in the massive pinwheel shape of Light within the Milky Way. Then draw yourself out of the pinwheel of Light and into the spiraling of your own DNA’s double helix, an arrangement similar to a rope ladder coiled like a corkscrew.
Analyze the way you move through your world. How do you picture yourself in the act of “locomotion”? What kind of action do you create with the energy you send out to the Universe? What words would you use to describe the way you move through both the physical and spiritual worlds? In the final analysis, is your movement compatible with your greatest desires and goals?
Many spiritual disciplines ask that you cease all external movement in order to recognize the inner life. Grouse medicine, however, is an invitation to dance. Grouse celebrates the Divine Source through it’s sacred spiritual dance, and offered this dance to you as a gift. You can spend a lifetime learning Grouse’s lesson on how to harmonize your dance with Mother Earth’s cycles, and how to offer the dance as a creation of selfless beauty.

As we are tested in life, we find the power to block and defeat. At the same time, we develop in ourselves an aversion to the conduct that brings us into stressful situations.
There appears to be a blockage on the path, but even delays may prove to be beneficial. Do not be overly eager to press forward. This is not a time or situation in which you can make your influence felt. Patience is the counsel that Eihwaz offers us in the month of August. Nothing hectic, no acting needy or lusting after a desired outcome. This Rune speaks of the difficulties that arise at the beginning of a new cycle or new life. Often it can announce a time of waiting. It is time for the spring to fill up with water and the fruit to ripen on the vine.
Perseverance and foresight are called for here. The ability to foresee consequences before you act is the mark of the profound person. Avert anticipated difficulties through right action. We are not the doers but the deciders. Once our decision is clear, the doing becomes effortless, for then the Universe supports and empowers our action.
As we receive this Rune – Eihwaz – consider yourself put on notice that through inconvenience and discomfort, growth is promoted. This month may well be a trying time, and certainly a meaningful one. Set your house in order, tend to good business, be clear, and wait on the Tao, the will of Heaven.
